Alma School & Ray Goodwill Retail Store was founded in 1947. The original notion was so forward-thinking that it is still as relevant now as it was a century ago. It offers no-cost career placement to community people throughout Arizona who need help connecting to jobs and finding meaningful work.
Rev. Edgar J. Helms created Goodwill Industries in 1902, intending to give hope to people, independence, and dignity. Helms began Goodwill by going around in Boston’s wealthiest neighborhoods, carrying sack bags, and asking for clothing and home goods contributions. The Goodwill charity set itself apart from many other organizations from the very start. Helms stressed that donated goods would be sold for profit, with the proceeds going to pay workers who assisted in recycling the donated goods.
Purpose
Goodwill offers a comprehensive approach to job search by equipping job seekers with the resources they need to feel confident, motivated, and productive. Individuals are empowered, families strengthened, and communities are fortified through Goodwill. Donating or buying at Goodwill helps us provide free career services to anybody seeking a new career, education, or skill development. Goodwill saves enormous sums of material from being thrown away in Arizona landfills by refurbishing or recycling it.
Your generosity provides a chance for Goodwill to be your medium in eradicating poverty through the potential of labor and establishing a sustainable environment in Arizona, whether you donate or buy goods. Every year, we save vast sums of waste from being dumped in Arizona landfills.
How It Works
- It all begins with your donations. You help stock our stores with fantastic buys and vintage treasures when you drop off your goods at the Goodwill outlets or arrange a residential pickup service. It’s the first step in assisting us in addressing Arizona’s poverty crisis.
- You might want to swing by the Goodwill shop if you’re shopping for a fancy garment or a stylish French press. Their shelves are brimming with fantastic items, thanks to the generosity of the donors. They also recycle products that they are unable to sell. This program diverts over 200 million pounds of waste from landfills each year.
- Goodwill’s career services were funded by donations and purchases. They are giving no-cost career counseling across Arizona and online thanks to the mix of contributions and profits from the business. Their services range from resumé and interview training to technology and soft skills development for anybody looking for work.
