Estate Planning Documents To Prepare
If you’re thinking of taking a trip, you have lots of little details to take care of: Reservations? Got ‘em. Packed suitcase? Check. Estate Planning? If you are heading out into the wild blue yonder, you’ll want to add these 3 estate planning tasks to your to-do list.
Update Or Prepare Estate Planning Documents
If you’ve done your estate planning, great job! Just take a few minutes to review it. Make sure it fits your current circumstances. If not, come see us to discuss any needed changes.
However, if you haven’t done your estate planning yet, it’s not too late. You can still consult with an attorney and get those important documents in order.
Prepare Digital Asset Inventory
You may have reserved your flight online and paid online using a credit card. You may havplied for a passport online or even checked out your destination, looking for the best hot spots to visit.
In this digital age, we do much of our business – personal and financial – on our computers, phones and tablets. This can cause problems in the unlikely event something happens to you while you are on your trip. Before you leave, prepare a list of important websites and log on information. Obviously, security is an issue so leave the list in a safe place. Your inventory of digital assets can even be part of your estate plans.
Make sure your agent or personal representative can access your accounts, if necessary. Some online accounts give the account holder the option of naming a person who is allowed to access your account. Check out your accounts and name names before you leave.
Review Beneficiary Designations On Accounts
Most of your insurance accounts, bank accounts, and other financial accounts allow account holders to name beneficiaries. By naming a beneficiary, you are paving the way for your money to be distributed to your heirs without going through probate.
